About Me and My Approach

Welcome. I'm Rachel Waldman, an experienced SLP and LMSW committed to providing sophisticated and compassionate support to individuals and families. My approach is deeply rooted in a **holistic lens**, recognizing that challenges often impact various aspects of lifeβ€”from communication and executive function to emotional well-being and relationships. I believe in seeing the **whole person**, understanding their unique strengths and struggles within the broader context of their lives.

With over a decade of dedicated practice, including 10 years within the school system and extensive private work with high school and college teens, as well as adults, I offer a nuanced understanding of diverse needs. I specialize in guiding individuals through complexities related to **ADHD, neurodiversity, executive function challenges, anxiety, depression, and significant life transitions.**

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Strategies for identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): Applied in individual and couples work to understand and transform emotional patterns and secure attachments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an SLP and an LMSW?

A **Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)** specializes in communication disorders, helping individuals with speech, language, voice, and swallowing difficulties. A **Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)** focuses on mental health and social well-being, providing therapy, counseling, and support to individuals, families, and groups to address emotional, social, and behavioral challenges. My dual licensure allows for a comprehensive, integrated approach to your care.

Do you offer in-person or remote sessions?

To provide maximum flexibility and accessibility, all my services are proudly offered **remotely**. This allows you to receive support from the comfort and convenience of your own home, eliminating travel time and geographical barriers.

What should I expect in my first session?

Your first session will be a confidential and collaborative space for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss your current concerns, goals, and what you hope to gain from our work together. It's also an opportunity for you to ask any questions and determine if my approach is a good fit for you. My aim is for you to feel heard, understood, and comfortable.

Do you accept insurance?

I currently operate as an **out-of-network provider**. This means I do not directly bill insurance companies. However, I can provide you with a detailed invoice (superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, depending on your plan's out-of-network benefits. I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to inquire about your specific coverage for out-of-network mental health services.
